Connection to Social Studies through Literature
Throughout the book, Miss Agnes reads literature to the class such as her read-aloud of Robin Hood, which helped the children connect to historical times and imagine what those times might have been like. Miss Agnes also gave some of the more advanced students books to read on their own, like Tom Sawyer and Huckleberry Fin, connecting language arts to social studies and helping her students learn about the past through literature while improving their reading skills.
